YFCU member David Jamison is preparing to travel to Diessenhofen, Switzerland to represent Northern Ireland in the European Ploughing Championships which will be held later this month.

Nineteen year old David has been a member of Kilraughts YFC for seven years and currently holds the position of Treasurer within the club.

David commented, “I qualified for the European Championships at the Northern Ireland Ploughing Association’s International competition that was held in Limavady back in September 2016.

“I travel to Switzerland on the 16th August along with my teammate James Coulter from Hillsborough with our own tractors and ploughs which will travel by boat.

“I’m really excited to be representing Northern Ireland and I hope that we come home with the trophy. It’s my first time competing at this level, and I’ll be the youngest there with the average age for competitors being around 40.”

It seems that ploughing is a family skill as David’s father Adrian will be travelling to Kenya in November to represent Northern Ireland at the Ploughing World Contest.

David continued, “I’ve been ploughing since I was 14 at local matches and have definitely been inspired by my Dad. I live on a busy dairy and arable farm so I enjoy having a hobby like this to get a break from it all.”

David and his teammate James have set up a Just Giving page to help them raise money for the team to help transport the ploughing equipment to Switzerland
