Farm Family Key Skills Workshops

Under the 2014 – 2020 Rural Development Programme, Farm Family Key Skills (FFKS) scheme, CAFRE continues to run short, topic based, free training workshops. The workshops are all linked to improving farm practices for farmers, farm family members and worker in the farm business.

Current workshops topics being delivered include:
• Business Planning - Taxation and Succession Planning;
• Health and Safety;
• Soil Analysis & Nutrient Management Planning

Business Planning Taxation and Succession Planning – evening workshops continue to be organised throughout Northern Ireland up to the end of March 2018. Details of dates and venues are at the end of this article.

Health and Safety –on farm continues to be an issue and statistics show that each month over 100 accidents on the farm require medical attention. We are encouraging the farm family to attend these free workshops as they offer practical awareness, covering the everyday health and safety hazards faced by the farming industry. New dates for Health and Safety workshops across are listed below.

Soil Analysis & Nutrient Management Planning - a new workshop that will provide valuable information on the nutrient content of your soils which is important when planning nutrient applications. The planned workshops will help farmers to understand their soil analysis report and what applications to use to help reduce the risk of nutrient loss. If you are one of the 1000 farmers across Northern Ireland who received free soil sampling co-ordinated by AFBI, you should receive an invitation to attend a workshop during February. Participants in the Catchment Scheme (11 sub-catchments of the Upper Bann) will receive their invitation during March – once you receive your invitation you must pre-book your workshop on 028 90833123.

H&S Workshop On-farm Dates at 7.00 pm:
Wednesday 7th March, Ballymena
Wednesday 14th March, Hilltown, Newry
Wednesday 21st March, Donemana

How to Register: Registration in advance of each workshop is essential. Register for a workshop by going online to www.cafre.ac.uk/industry-support/farm-family-key-skills or alternatively contact RDC on 028 8676 6980. Anyone who wishes to host a workshop in their community please also get in touch with RDC for assistance.
