Please read the following details carefully
Two teams of three competitors debate against each other. Each speaker’s role varies in the debate.
Junior members will be provided with a theme prior to the competition.
Senior members will be provided a topic on the night, with time for preparation.
Eligibility - There will be six classes as follows:
1. CLASS A
12-14 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 12 at the time of the competition or 12-13 on 31/08/2018
2. CLASS B
14-16 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 14 or 15 on 31/08/2018
3. CLASS C
16-18 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 16 or 17 on 31/08/2018
4. CLASS D
18-21 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 18, 19 or 20 on the 31/08/2018
5. CLASS E
21-25 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 21-24 on the 31/08/2018
6. CLASS F
25-30 Years - For teams of 3 competitors each aged 25-29 on the 31/08/2018 (Those turning 30 in the period 01/05/2019 – 31/08/2019 will be eligible for a further year.*)
No member can participate in two debates, however if a club has insufficient members to complete a team YFCU HQ will encourage and facilitate proposals for amalgamating with another club.
The opening speaker for the motion should confine themselves to the discussion of broad principles. The opening speaker against the motion should do likewise. They should give a general survey of the subject without necessarily countering specific points made by the proposed. The 1st speaker is also required to conclude with a summary of their argument.
A supporting speaker should drive home the chief points raised by the main speaker for their side and counter points made by the other side.
They may add new points:
Junior - 12-14, 14-16 and 16-18 age groups
Senior - 18-21, 21-25 and 25-30 age groups
