5:3 A model for effective Rural Youth Work

The Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster are leading the way in Rural Youth Work, this week they have launched “5:3 A model for effective Rural Youth Work.”

It is so appropriate that as we celebrate 90 years of activity, we should be selected to do this vital piece of work which helps identify what is different for Youth Organisations in Rural Areas and where the needs for assistance have been developed.
Beth Ferguson was employed and over a 9-month period she met with 143 young people aged 11-25 across 3 Council Areas identifying what was important to them and then worked with Government, Councils and Service Providers to produce this report the 5 Pillars and 3 Foundations of good Youth work!
Pillars (Main issues)
·      Transport
·      Mental Health
·      Time and Location
·      Skills and Personal Development
·      Shared Space and Resources
Foundations
·      Youth Engagement
·      Flexibility
·      Community Partnership
