Bob Esler joined the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster in 1998, stepping into the role of Honorary Treasurer. An active member of Lisnamurrican Young Farmers’ Club from 1972 to 1978, Bob brought so much knowledge and experience to the table with a deep understanding of financial management and human resources. The role of Honorary Treasurer was not an easy one, and Bob fulfilled the role with nothing short of professionalism. For 27 years, Bob was responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of the organisation, providing strategic financial oversight, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and working closely with trustees and senior management to support the mission of YFCU. Bob had the ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data, was able to work collaboratively with stakeholders and had an in-depth understanding of financial regulations, charity law and best practices in financial governance.

Past President of YFCU from 2015 - 2017, Roberta Simmons paid tribute to Bob's time in service. She said "Where could we get another one like him? I recall many fond memories from working with Bob when I was President of YFCU. After an eventful 86-mile cycle to raise money for Diabetes UK, Bob looked after the whole team. He may have walked like John Wayne but made sure that everyone was well-fed and had somewhere to rest their head that night. It turned out to be a 90-mile cycle by the time we had finished but Bob was there right from the beginning. I recall the time Bob assisted the Ladies through the snowstorm in Brussels, or the time he took on the role of Simon Cowell in 'YFCU's Got Talent'. In more difficult occasions, Bob was only ever a phone call away, no matter what hour of the day when an issue arose and I needed to discuss. Bob's dedication to YFCU was impeccable, he attended so many meetings and gatherings. I personally thank him for all he did to assist me in my tenure and wish him all the best in the next chapter".

Bob’s integrity, honesty and commitment to YFCU has been recognised by the whole organisation and he will be undoubtedly missed. Martyn Blair, President of YFCU from 2013 - 2015 recalled many memories of his time working with Bob on the organisation's Executive committee. He said "Bob was the Peter Pan of YFCU and I do believe he gets younger looking every year! I spent many an evening with Bob and his wife Lynda over dinner, and the jokes and stories were always sensational, but we had to pretend we hadn't heard them ten times already! During my time as President, Bob was an invaluable support to me and I will always be indebted to him for that. YFCU will miss him for sure, but I know everyone was so grateful for his committment to the organisation and his passion for working with young people. I wish him every blessing in the next chapter".

Derek Lough, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for YFCU said, “I only worked with Bob for a short time, but could tell he was a strategic thinker and had a significant impact on our organisation. The future of our young people was always at the forefront of his mind”. YFCU President Richard Beattie explained, “Bob has been a stalwart of our association for many years. As for anyone stepping into the role of President, it can be quite daunting but having Bob in his role was a great reassurance to me and he has helped myself and many Past Presidents take on the new role with confidence. Bob will be greatly missed, his dedication to YFCU has been exemplary”.
