"YFCU has given me friends for life", says Emma Knox (Crumlin YFC)

Twenty year old Emma Knox is an active member of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU), who volunteers her time and energy across a range of different roles and committees within the organisation.

Emma is the current secretary for Crumlin Young Farmers’ Club, the Vice-Chairperson of the YFCU Wellbeing and Development Committee and also a member of the YFCU Executive Committee. She also sits on the Equine committee, the Balmoral Show Sub-Committee and is a Farm Safety Mentor. All of these roles require a lot of commitment and Emma is a true representative of a valued YFCU member.

Outside of Young Farmer life, Emma studies Geography at Queen’s University in Belfast and aspires to be a teacher of the subject in the near future. Her family farm keeps Pedigree Rouge and Border Leicester Sheep, Commercial Sheep and a small herd of Beef Cattle, where she enjoys spending time away from the study desk.

“Young Farmers’ means so much more to me than an organisation for young people with an interest in agriculture. It has provided me with friends for life and I have met people from across Northern Ireland and the UK that I probably wouldn’t have met only for the opportunities offered to me through YFCU”, Emma explained. “I have learned new skills through participating in different competitions, which I know will help to shape my future and grow in my career. I have been able to connect with like-minded individuals and shared interests as well as learn more about rural life in Northern Ireland”.

Emma defined her fondest memory of being involved in YFCU when she won County Antrim Senior Member of the Year competition in 2025. “I was completely taken back by this award”, Emma recalled. “I couldn’t be prouder of our organisation and I look forward to what the 2025 / 2026 year has in store”.
